1. Introduction

SeriesSync ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data. By using SeriesSync you agree to the practices described here.

2. Data We Collect

Account Information

  • Email address (used for authentication and account recovery)
  • Username and optional display name
  • Optional biography text

Watch History & Preferences

  • TV shows you add to your library, along with status and ratings
  • Episode watch history (season and episode numbers, timestamps)
  • A 20-dimensional taste vector derived from your genre preferences — this is a mathematical representation of your viewing habits, not raw personal data

Social Data

  • Friend connections (usernames of people you follow or who follow you)
  • In-app notifications related to friend activity

Third-party Integration Data

  • If you connect a Trakt.tv account: your Trakt username and an OAuth access token required to import your watch history. We do not store your Trakt password.

Usage Data

  • Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited)
  • Cookie consent choice stored locally in your browser

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and operate the SeriesSync service
  • To personalise show recommendations and Taste Twin matching
  • To generate spoiler-free AI recaps via the Claude API (show identifiers only — no personal data is sent to Anthropic)
  • To send transactional emails (password resets, account verification) via Supabase Auth
  • To improve the service through aggregate, anonymised analytics

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policy:

Supabase ↗

Database, authentication, and file storage. Your data is stored in Supabase-managed PostgreSQL infrastructure.

TMDB ↗

The Movie Database. Used for show metadata, posters, and cast information. No personal data is shared.

Anthropic Claude ↗

AI API used to generate episode recaps. Only show title and episode details are sent — no personal user data.

5. Cookies

We use the following types of cookies:

  • Essential cookies — set by Supabase Auth to maintain your login session. These are required for the service to function and cannot be rejected.
  • Preference cookies — stored in your browser's localStorage to remember your cookie consent choice.

You can manage your cookie preferences at any time via the link in the footer.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time (see Your Rights below). Watch history older than three years may be automatically purged at our discretion.

7. Your Rights

Under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access — request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification — correct inaccurate data (you can edit your profile directly in the app)
  • Right to erasure — request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Right to data portability — export your watch history in machine-readable format
  • Right to object — opt out of any processing not strictly necessary for the service
